Hi all!
I'm Reka from Melbourne, Australia, also known as Robotic Zamat, R-chan and Akane, to name a few nick-names that have been given to me over the years of activity on the Internet on various forums and sites, never mind chat-rooms and other such questionable, but delightful pages.
I have been working as a native English teacher for the past 3 years (though majored in Particle Physics at university, go figure), have a number of hobbies I usually have no time for and am currently learning Japanese (having just passed the JLPT N4 and aiming for the N3 this year).
I teach students of all ages, background and ability, from 8-88 years of age, from absolute beginner to fluent. I do my best to make engaging and fun lessons, while emphasizing the 'why' behind how we use this language called English. While I am something of a stickler for language, I do not consider myself a "grammar Nazi", preferring, instead to help others challenge and improve their abilities.
I believe that the more interactive the class is, the better. The goal is, of course, to attain a use in the language with which the students can use it in their everyday lives, be it for shopping, travelling, passing an exam, moving abroad or just for fun. Language is not only learnt through repeating grammar, in fact, most of it is not, so I make sure that we don't bore the poor students with only dry grammar. The more ways a students sees, hears and interacts with a language, the better.
My motto: "Have fun learning"
And I do my best to keep to it!
Learning is fun, no matter your aim and no matter who you are.
Cheers!
R
